Students compete against each other in different speech categories. Competitive speech is similar to other competitive sports. It requires focus and dedication to hard work. It teaches grit!
Students write or prepare for speeches before a tournament. Families can join speech and debate clubs or practice at home with Christian Speech League instructional videos included with your $99 membership fee. Tournaments are held on Saturdays in Glendale, Arizona.
At a tournament, students compete in two rounds. This means your student gives each speech twice at every tournament! The top competitors move on to a third round - finals.
After an awards ceremony, students receive ballots from judges offering suggestions for changes. Students make changes to their speeches or presentational style then return to compete again at the next tournament.
Apologetics - Answer the world’s questions. Bible analysis. Topics given ahead of time.
Impromptu - Speak on-the-spot from a prompt.
Informative - Share new or interesting information with the audience.
Interview (ages 14-18) - Round 1 is a position advertised online. Round 2 is an imaginary scenario.
Podcasting - One or two students for a specific audience. "This podcast is for old car enthusiasts."
